Photo Diary: Random Autumn Walks

It’s the tail-end of October and here we are again with a random autumn photo diary. If you’ve been to this space before, you may have already been clued in on how much I love autumn. I’m a certified fall girl. 🍂 It’s that time of the year where all of my favourite colours come to life – and it’s always a serotonin boost for me going in these autumn walks around Belfast. We had an unusually sunny October day today so I snuck off work for an hour or so during my lunch and went to the nearest park. Armed with a dirty chai latte from one of my favourite coffee shops and my trusted camera, I went out to explore and appreciate the fall colours once again (for the nth time, I know).

One of the reasons why I enjoy living in the heart of the city centre is being close to these beautiful urban spaces where I can always walk around in if I want to clear my head.

I know Belfast is predominantly a city peppered with evergreen trees so it always fascinates me whenever I see the contrast of these vibrant colours among the greens.

Random sunshine appreciation day. The wind was crisp against my face. And even if the temperature is on the lower end today, the splash of sunshine gives a comforting warmth to the day. I’ve never been much of a fan of too much sunshine (maybe because of how fed up I was of it when I was in the PH) but colder days and places like this makes me appreciate it so much. When the slight heat of it touches my skin, I feel happy.

Fallen leaves and their inexplicable beauty in my eyes. Walking like this, where vibrancy and slow death exist at the same time, always makes you think. I’ve always loved this quality in autumn: nature’s final bow before the inevitable exit, how colours turn vivid before they fade.

While I know that these are most likely poisonous, holly berries are one of my favourite sights during autumn. These berries remain till winter, so when everything is dying and preparing to hibernate, hollies are one of the few vibrant sights to behold during this season. It always reminds me of Christmas. Someone once told me that it is a popular folklore belief that a lot of holly berries (or maybe it’s just berries in general?) would signal a harsh winter. There are a lot of them now around the city but here’s to hoping winter won’t be as bad this year.

This plant has a lot of names: Chinese lantern, bladder cherry, winter cherry, etc. I’ve only seen one to two shrubs of this but I can’t help but take a photo because of the colour. I love it so much!

A dried up thistle against the sky. Thistles have a way of making me sad because of memories attached to it. Sometimes it happens – you are in a walk and you randomly encounter something that evokes a certain strong emotion.

It was worth it getting those one to two hours of time outside today. Here’s a reminder to have that walk, no matter how busy you get. You never know how it can uplift your spirit. 🍂
