    2019: My Year in Books

    2019: My Year in Books

Last year, I challenged myself to read 40 books – and bless my schedule – I can’t believe I actually made it. I know it’s not that much compared to a lot of people in the book community – but as slow a reader as I am and how hectic my work schedule is, consistently…

Blog Tour: The Sword of Kaigen (A Theonite War Story) by M.L. Wang [REVIEW]

Blog Tour: The Sword of Kaigen (A Theonite War Story) by M.L. Wang [REVIEW]

You know that feeling when you’re completely sucked in and already so deeply invested that you don’t want the book to end? It may sound so cliché at this point, but this is literally what I felt reading this book – dreading the last chapter but still keeping at it because… what else can you…

Review: Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami

Review: Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami

Reading Murakami has given me three impressions: emotional, vintage, and surreal. With a set of curious, and almost strange characters…. Murakami made, what I think, one of his most emotionally vulnerable creations.

Review: Viva Durant and the Secret of the Silver Buttons by Ashli St. Armant

Review: Viva Durant and the Secret of the Silver Buttons by Ashli St. Armant

Listening to this audiobook reminded me so much of those early children shows, especially with those “ding” moments when the protagonist figures something out. It made me appreciate more the efforts in producing these pieces and also made me realize that I need to listen to audiobooks more often.

Photo Diary: Of crimson and gold (Yosemite, CA)

Photo Diary: Of crimson and gold (Yosemite, CA)

There’s a sort of magic in those moments within the woods. Everything seemed to glow bright. The golds of the sunlight reflected differently. And amidst the withered leaves and dried barks, it’s as if it the forest is more alive that it ever is.

Review: While You Were Reading by Ali Berg and Michelle Kalus

Review: While You Were Reading by Ali Berg and Michelle Kalus

This is for the adults that still dreams of romantic things and happy ending. For the ones that still love and appreciate the comfort of written words so much that it is still an escape from their hectic lives after all these years. Honestly, I felt seen. A “29-year-old dog-earer of books” – dial this…

Review: The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

Review: The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

To say that I thoroughly enjoyed The Starless Sea is an understatement. I loved every word in it and every minute of it. If I could pocket this book and carry this everywhere, I would – knowing that I will hold a little piece of magic with me all the time.

Review: Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Damaged Glory by Raphael Bob-Waksberg [+ Random Reflections]

Review: Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Damaged Glory by Raphael Bob-Waksberg [+ Random Reflections]

There’s a sense of empty restlessness and melancholy that hangs heavy in this collection. And I am so in awe because, most times, it’s really hard to encapsulate and describe it – hard to capture it through moments. But weirdly enough, this book got it.

Blog Tour: The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco (The Never Tilting World, #1) [Review]

Blog Tour: The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco (The Never Tilting World, #1) [Review]

The idea of twin goddesses ruling a world that was split into night and day presents such a vivid imagery. I dove into this book without expecting anything but what I got were rich world-building and a pace and presentation that totally worked.

Photo Diary: New York on my mind

Photo Diary: New York on my mind

There’s something about visiting New York City for the first time. The busy streets, the skycrapers, the nightlights and the people. I feel like I’ve romanticized this city so much because of too much consumption of books and TV series that somehow did the same. But seeing it first-hand is definitely an experience.
